For over two decades SpiritWinds has handcrafted Native American Style flutes, and in that time has sought to stay true to the foundations of the tradition whilst ensuring that each flute is an individual and unique, just as each player is.

Truly, no two flutes are alike, and our methods of handcrafting our flutes using only hand tools guarantees this.

My Focus when voicing and tuning is to produce even balance, rich harmonics and volume throughout the scale of the flute.

The beauty of this instrument is that like many traditional instruments the world over, its foundational concept is that it is tuned to a pentatonic scale, which allows even non musicians to begin to play sounds that although simple, are no less beautiful than more complex instruments.

Modern demands have seen this instrument evolve to play a full octave of the western chromatic scale through adding an extra hole and using cross fingerings. But our philosophy is very much rooted in the focus of using sound as a method of finding space, breath and silence, and all the benefits available to anyone willing to take the time to learn a few notes.
